I can’t believe August is almost over! Since the wedding, things have really flown by for us!! I can’t believe I was able to be a part of Liz and Fred’s wedding just three days after I got back from my own honeymoon! I love being a wedding photographer and loved it before I got married, but there’s something extra special about it now that I’m married, too!
Liz and Fred met their sophomore year at SUNY New Paltz during the Yankee playoffs – Fred couldn’t believe how much of a true Yankees fan Liz was (and still is!) when they first met! As Liz said, after he bought her a pitcher of Bud Light to watch the playoffs that night… the rest was history! Both teachers, they have a passion for working with children, spending their free time on the beach and at breweries. 9 years later, in a day filled to the brim with family and the sweetest love you can imagine, they’ve tied the knot!!
They planned a beautiful navy, white and peach summer wedding throughout their engagement. Liz actually did much of the decor herself, which is incredible! One of the most beautiful parts about their day is that despite having lost both of their grandfathers recently, they found sweet ways to incorporate their memory into the wedding. In fact, while Liz’s grandfather was in the hospital a couple years ago Liz became friendly with one of his nurses who was also engaged and they frequently talked about planning their weddings. Kristen, the nurse, mentioned how much she loved her photographer and that is how Liz found me to be her photographer. I literally almost cried when she first told me this story on our initial phone call and felt so blessed when she reached out to me. I was able to meet Liz’s grandmother during the wedding which made everything more bittersweet, without a doubt.
When I asked Liz and Fred if they had any advice for other brides and grooms planning their own weddings, Liz told me “This will pass. Don’t let your thoughts become negative because the only thing that matters is that you are marrying the love of your life and it will be amazing. Anxiety needs something to attach to so a wedding is the perfect culprit. Remember that every thought in your head is not a fact. Take some me time and focus on self-care so you can be the best version of yourself for your wedding day!” What amazing advice and as a recent bride myself, I totally agree!!
My favorite (and most memorable part) of this gorgeous wedding was when Liz looked over her shoulder at her grandma and smiled and they both started to tear up. Of course I started crying too! I am crying writing this right now — but happy tears of course!! It was such an emotional day for everyone… especially Liz & Fred who were filled with happy tears all day long!
